I visited Walt Disney World last year and was very apprehensive about moving around the various Theme Parks each day. I knew that I couldn’t walk all day because physical limitations would prevent me from doing so with ease. So using a mobility scooter during my trip to Disney World was my best option!

After deciding to rent a mobility scooter, I figured out where to get one. Incidentally, a mobility scooter is called an Electric Conveyance Vehicle or ECV. I researched the many rental offerings and fortunately came upon a company with an excellent reputation for dependability and reliability. The company is Gold Mobility Scooters out of Kissimmee (Orlando area), Florida.

GMS was everything that I could ask for. For example, they have reasonable weekly rates, clean and sanitized equipment, and personalized service. They also rent wheelchairs and premium walkers. Additionally, they rent strollers, along with other baby and toddler equipment. Furthermore, all of these items are Theme Park approved!

Mobility Scooter Convenience At Disney World

I was on my schedule to visit all four of the Disney World Theme Parks. I’ll detail my mobility scooter experiences for each Theme Park and attraction in future posts. But, for right now, I’ll give you a broad overview. The home base for my Disney adventure was the Port Orleans Riverside Resort. From there, I could conveniently use my ECV to board the Disney buses, bringing me to the park of my choice each day.

Overall the Disney Transportation system was fantastic. As a result, I even used the water taxi to go over to Disney Springs a few times. Now each of the individual parks was where the fun began. Not walking around each park enabled me to enjoy my trip. The parks were pretty crowded, but I could get through each day uneventfully. Using a mobility scooter on my Disney World trip was great!

Overall WDW Statistics

Walt Disney World encompasses about 27,258 acres (43 square miles) – about the same area as all of San Francisco and two times the size of Manhattan. Roughly one-third of this area is conservation land.

With an average annual attendance of over 52 million visitors, Walt Disney World is the most visited vacation resort in the world. To handle the crowds, WDW employs about 74,000 people.

That information is out there if you are into more detailed statistics and facts about Walt Disney World. For example, click this link to Magic Guides for more detailed information. However, this is just one of the many sites citing Disney World stats and facts.

Disney World Theme Parks Information

Different sources quote different sizes and stats for Disney’s various Theme Parks. You also have to factor in the staff’s space and requirements allotted. These include employee parking, maintenance, and other off-limit working areas that are not accessible to the general public.

The Magic Kingdom, at 105 acres, was crowded, and the passageways seemed narrower than the other parks. However, even though it was congested, it was not impossible to get around.

Epcot is the second-largest park at 300 acres. Using the scooter was much easier because the park is more spread out with lots of room to navigate.

The Animal Kingdom is roughly 403 acres, making it the largest of the theme parks. It was effortless to get around in because the park’s size was so vast. Using a mobility scooter allowed me to enjoy this park. I would never have been able to walk in this park all day long!

Hollywood Studios seemed to be the most difficult for me because it is the second smallest of the parks, with seemingly less room to maneuver. However, the purported size of the park is 135 acres. Plus, the crowd level was high the day I visited.

Which Park Has The Most Yearly Visitors

What matters is the number of people, at each park, on any given day. From what I’ve been able to determine, the MK has the most yearly visitors, followed by Epcot. However, there is a close tie between Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

The crowd dynamics will change with the most recent addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Rise of The Resistance to Hollywood Studios. Besides, it stands to reason that more people, there will be higher congestion. It’s especially true when you approach the more popular attractions.

Pedestrians Not Paying Attention To Mobility Scooters At Disney World

You have to be careful driving around and use situational awareness. It means to look to the right and left, as well as in front of you. In reality, people will stop in their tracks, right in front of you, to look at something or take a picture without regard to this mobility scooter behind them. For example, would you walk out in front of a moving car? You would think not, but that’s what people do when they walk in front of your ECV!

I probably could have made a hood ornament a few times out of someone’s rear end. Additionally, I can almost guarantee that someone will walk into you from behind. That’s because they weren’t paying attention! You have to be patient and not seem offended when they look at you with that expression to say you’re at fault. However, you paid admission to the park and are entitled to all the benefits that doing so allows. So don’t be reluctant to use a mobility scooter at Disney World or any other place you choose.
